Meet the painter 🤍
I’m Sarah Lapis Lazuli, a contemporary seascape painter based between Ghent, Belgium, and Paris, France. I create original acrylic paintings exploring the sea’s changing light, movement and atmosphere, in the spirit of marine impressionism.
I paint the sea because she is free.
She doesn't ask permission to be herself. Calm in the morning, restless by noon, she holds a thousand shades between the lightest blue and the deepest black, and carries, in the same breath, both life and death. She can warm your skin one afternoon and leave a mark the next. And still, everyone loves her. Everyone accepts her. More than that, she fascinates us.
That contradiction is what I try to hold on canvas: not a postcard sea, but a living one, unpredictable, unowned, unapologetic. Each piece is built in layers of acrylic, the way the sea herself is built from a thousand small movements. I'm drawn to light, movement and atmosphere more than to detail, in the spirit of marine impressionism.
Every original is one of one, like the wave that inspired it. If one speaks to you, or if you'd like to talk about a piece for a particular wall, write to me directly. Every message reaches me.
The sea, unpredictable. She asks no one's permission. Neither do I.
